A Mother’s Letter
Aloha My name is Lisa Moniz. I am the mother of eight wonderful children, and the wife of a very supportive man. I am a full time mother, and a full time employee in the medical field. The reason for this web-site is for my oldest son Ja Van, who is nineteen years of age. He graduated from Waianae High School on May 30, 2008, and left for basic training on July 10,2008 for the Hawaii Army National Guard. He is stationed at Ft Sill in Oklahoma. My son carried with him pride, self confidence and determination to become part of a great organization such as the Hawaii Army National Guard. Unfortunately on July 19,2008, he was injured, not only on US soil, but by the hand of his own Drill Sgt. The Army is calling it an act of inappropiate behavior, on the part of the Drill Sgt. This inappropiate behavior has left my son’s vision and hearing impaired. He suffers from constant headaches, and nose bleeds. After many attempts to contact my son, I called The Senators of Hawaii. Senator Daniel Akaka, and Senator Daniel Inouye, who assured me that they would look into the matter. So far the only accomplishment that I have recvd is that my son is getting medical attention from providers there on Ft Sill. Which brings me to this, when I last spoke to my son, he stated that he was seen by a neurologist, that specialist( from the Army at Ft Sill) had told my son that his vision damage was permanent, and that he was reccomending medical release. The Army is keeping him isolated in his quarters, not training him because of his injuries. Why is he being punished, and treated like a common criminal, when he has done nothing wrong?
